Anil’s life turned upside down when he met with an accident in 2018. He had a stable job as a cook for 25 years, but the tragedy turned him into a disabled roadside beggar on Delhi’s Outer Ring Road.
Anil was born on 1 July 1973 in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. He has five brothers and two sisters back in the village, mostly involved in farming and running a general store. Anil, however, chose a different path for himself. Not very interested in studies, Anil left home after matriculation to try his luck in Delhi, and maintained no contact with his family. The downside of this was that there was no one to look after him after his accident. Anil suffered several injuries due to this accident. Both his legs stopped working and his overall health deteriorated. He was suffering from a serious case of back bugs when our volunteers found him near Tilak Nagar metro station where he used to beg for money. He lived in the government shelter there and made Rs 100 per day.
Anil’s situation forced him to beg for food and money, but he wants to get healthy and work for his money. His preference is to work in the hotel industry where he has worked all through his life.
Anil never returned to his village or got married as he never wanted to be a burden on anyone. Despite all the odd circumstances, his spirit to be spirit to be self-reliant stands tall.
We at WeCreate DREAM INDIA are taking care of him in our home shelters where we are also getting him good treatment for his back sores. He gets a dressing every day. As per the doctors, he has been recovering well and should be fine within two-three months. Not just physically, our volunteers are also helping him to rehabilitate mentally as well, so that he can get back his confidence and stand back on his two feet.
